Expands capabilities with addition of Quebec Commercial Insurance Manager and Environmental Product Specialist
TORONTO (July 18, 2019) – Burns & Wilcox, a leading managing general agent, announced today the addition of three new associates to its Toronto, Quebec and Atlantic region offices. The hires include the appointment of David Harris as Director of Underwriting, Atlantic Canada, who previously worked at Angus-Miller Insurance Ltd. for more than 25 years—most recently as Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this newly created role, Harris will be responsible for overseeing operations of the Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John’s, Newfoundland offices.
As the company continues its national expansion and growth, experiencing a more than 20 percent increase since 2017 in Canada, it has filled additional key roles, including the hiring of Shirley Gauthier, Commercial Insurance Manager, Quebec; and Karim Jaroudi, Product Specialist, Environmental Insurance, Toronto.
“We are excited to have David, Shirley and Karim join the team, further deepening our capabilities to better serve our retail broker clients,” said Jodie Kaufman Davis, Corporate Senior Vice President, H.W. Kaufman Group and Managing Director, Burns & Wilcox. “Their wealth of expertise ranging from Commercial and Personal Insurance to Underwriting and Business Development, along with strong relationships within their respective regions, will continue to strengthen the company’s presence on a national level.”
Harris has more than 25 years of Personal and Commercial Insurance industry experience. His extensive background in profitability, product development and strategic direction is a strong fit for his new role as Director of Underwriting, Atlantic Canada. His responsibilities will focus on forging and strengthening partnerships and relationships, as well as leveraging his extensive expertise to enhance the company’s underwriting results. The role also involves working closely with the Burns & Wilcox senior leadership team on strategic planning and underwriting oversight to help grow the business.
“I have lived and worked in the Atlantic region for my entire career, and I have been fortunate to develop a large network of local, national and international relationships,” said Harris. “I am excited to be part of the Burns & Wilcox team and use my skills and knowledge to help further the company’s growth and success.”
Bringing more than 10 years of Environmental Underwriting experience to the Burns & Wilcox team in Toronto, Jaroudi’s main focus will be on strategic business development. He will also be a team leader, supporting junior associates with his strong environmental technical knowledge.
Gauthier will use her business development knowledge and experience to further establish the company’s presence in Quebec and will collaborate closely with the leadership team.
Harris and Jaroudi will report to Kaufman Davis. Gauthier will report to Tyson Peel, Director, Property and Casualty, Burns & Wilcox.
